Sheila has been putting Linda Paris’ free motion quilting workshops into practice on this quilt that is one of the Welsh Heritage Quilters challenges for their 2016 exhibition, Sweet 16 Quilting Dreams. It is great to see an end result and I look forward to sharing more with you.
Yesterday was the last of three classes in free motion quilting with Linda Paris. We had had one day a month and the three months have passed so quickly.
Our first class concentrated on setting up our machines and practising the hand movement that results in those lovely flowing designs. We were given homework to do before the next class as we were told that only constant practice will work.
A quite pleasing first attempt.
The next month we looked at some of the numerous tools and aids available to mark a design onto fabric. This is a minefield! But is obviously essential to achieving the required symmetry and balance.
This final week we explored machine trapunto and then how to fill in round our raised objects using a grid for guidance. Here are some examples of our work.
