The Minerva Arts Centre is essential to the life of the Quilt Association so we are always pleased when an interesting new group uses the space. Maureen Morris, one of the founders of What If Textiles (WIT) explains…….
A new group has begun to meet in the Minerva Arts Centre. Formed from within the Welsh Heritage Quilters (Wednesday Quilters) the new group will meet on the last Wednesday of the month from 10am until 1.00pm
The new group has been set up so that members can share skills and information and have fun learning from each other. So if you wanted to learn more about e.g. printing on fabric, or how to use Markal oil sticks, there will surely be someone in the group who will share their expertise with you. The idea is that you don’t have to buy yet another load of materials to find out if you will use the technique again.
There is an annual fee of £20 if you wish to join, but sessions are open to anyone who wants to drop in for a particular subject. This would cost just £5.00 including materials
A new way to stay in touch with all that is happening at the Quilt Association and our home in Llanidloes, The Minerva Arts Centre.
There is never a quiet time here: there is always something interesting in the offing! It won’t be long before the annual Christmas Craft fair, organised by Charles Gratrix, opens its doors. This well established fair has established a fine reputation as an opportunity to see the work of well chosen craftspeople, picked for the quality of their work and to ensure variety and interest. To enhance an already jolly atmosphere even further, we will be running three workshops to enable participants to establish a wonderful handmade Christmas. The first, on November 10, will be led by Doreen Gough and she will teach you how to make a Christmas stocking that will become a family heirloom.
The workshops are each £42.00 and that includes all materials. It is essential to book as places go very quickly. Contact The Quilt Association through our website, (you will find a link in the sidebar).
The first patchwork and quilting course we have run for a long while has been keenly attended. I am sorry to anyone who was disappointed to miss out this time. We will let the Mid Wales winter do its worst and the next introductory course will start in February. For those of you who would like a ‘next level’ course, look out for news in March.
